About

I’m Christin.

This is a much more accurate depiction of myself.

I live in Austin, Texas with the love of my life, Alex.

And our pup-children.

And Rambo.

I love my happy little family.

I am definitely a crazy dog lady.

I consider myself a peanut butter connoisseur.

I am heavily tattooed with no plans of stopping anytime soon.

I am obsessed with manatees and good hip-hop.  I love yoga and a great cup of coffee.  I am a massage therapist, recently out of school, having finally found my calling.  I am beyond ecstatic to begin building my client base and help people through the healing power of touch.  My favorite color is purple, and I also really like birds.   I love food and I love to talk about myself, and this little old Purple Bird Blog is a great outlet for me to talk about food and myself quite often.  Welcome to my humble virtual abode, where I expound upon all of the above topics and more, as I chronicle my journey through food, life, and trying to find a magical balance in it all.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you’ll stick around!

So, I JUST stumbled on your blog, and I see so many of my favorite blog people making comments. I am headed to Austin in like 10 days to run a half marathon, and to check it out….it is up high in the runnings for the next place for me to call home. Thanks for your blog and the affirmation that Austin is pretty cool.

Hey, awesome blog! I found you from Janetha’s site. It is my dream to one day live in Texas, so I’m sure I will be checking back so I can live vicariously through you :) xoxo

  15. Hey Christin! I’ve seen your name on almost every blog I read – and it’s always one or two above me, so weird! – so I took that as a sign to check out your blog. Super cute! My nickname in high school/growing up was Bird so I have an affinity for anything bird.

    • purplebirdblog says:

Hey Erin, thanks for stopping by! I totally grew to love all things bird after volunteering a wildlife rescue in town… birds rule! I’m totally heading over to check out your blog now :)

I was wondering what the requirements are to practice massage in Texas, particularly Austin. I am in California & I am graduating from a 720 hour program in September. My partner & I are thinking about moving to Austin so I am curious as to how difficult it is to get set up & practice. Do you know what the biggest sector in the industry is out there? clinical massage, spa, etc.?

I tried to find your email on your site to email you directly, but I couldn’t find it – sorry to take up space on your comments section.

    • purplebirdblog says:

Hey Nicole! I’m enrolled in a 500 hour program per the state’s requirements. There is a lot of massage in this town, but a lot is still needed! There are a bazillion postings on our board in the school and tons that I see on Craigslist for all types of massage… spa work, pairing with a chiropractor, sports, etc. I personally intend to work for myself and to gradually ease into it from the job I have now until I have a solid client base. I know lots of people who are making a good living in this town as therapists. :)

And good point on my email not really being on the site, I’ll totally add it somewhere. It’s purplebirdchristin@gmail.com

  19. Christin- Love your blog! Hey have you heard of the band Nerf Herder? they are local to me, but had a couple hits back in the late nineties…think nerd rock style…they wrote/performed the theme song to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tv show)..anyways, they have a song called (Stand By Your) Manatee, so thought you might like…here’s the link! :)

How have I managed to not read your about page until now? No clue. But, I love all these photos!

I think we were separated at birth – birds, hip hop, tattoos. Wait. I don’t have any tattoos. I like them though. Can we still be friends?

  21. My favorite color is purple too! Just stopped by from HEAB’s blog. Can’t wait to make some chickpea cookies of my own :)
