Foodbuzz Tastemakers: Ghiradelli Smores

Happy Saturday, my lovely friends!  Today is a BIG Saturday for me.  Not only were my last Saturday classes at school today (with my last class Monday night!), but today also marks 4 years of sobriety for me.  That’s a long story for another day, if you’re interested… let me know if you’d like to hear more and I’ll be happy to compose a post.  In the meantime though, check this out…

As part of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program, I recently received some Ghiradelli dark chocolate to try.  Dark chocolate is definitely a foodie BFF of mine, so I was thrilled for the chance!

I received products from their Intense Dark line – 72% and 86% cacao (already chocolate loves of mine), and a new one to me, the Sea Salt Soiree.  I absolutely love the flavor pairing of chocolate and salt, so I could hardly wait to dig in!

All of the flavors are delicious, and the sea salt was particularly divine!  I got to thinking that those little squares are practically BEGGING to be made into smores, so I set out to the store to buy some marshmallows and and gluten-free graham crackers, and a love affair was born!

Due to the delicate drought conditions in Texas and the subsequent burn ban, I knew a fire was out of the question, so I made my smores two ways – some in the oven and some roasted over the gas burners on my stove!

The oven variety was a delicious gooey mess, but it just felt weird without a good charred marshmallow, so I got to roasting over the gas burner.  I’m sure that’s probably the worst idea in history, but it made for a great smore, I can’t lie.

There really is just something about melted chocolate and marshmallow smooshed between two graham crackers that feels like fall and brings a sense of nostalgic comfort over me (even when it’s still 95 degrees outside!).

The quality of the Ghiradelli dark chocolate really sent these smores into another plane of delicious awesomeness unlike any smore I’ve ever eaten in the past.  I plan to do this all over again when we’ve finally had some cold weather and some rain so I can have a real fire for roasting!

Thanks again to Ghiradelli and Foodbuzz for the decadent tasting opportunity!  :)

What awesomeness are you guys getting into on this fabulous Saturday night?

  1. aren’t those Kinnikinnick grahams the best? I like them better than regular ones. ALL of the dark chocolate looks fantastic, and the salted? Mmm, yes please.

Jason and I are spending a couple days at the beach this weekend, it has just been lovely. a pre birthday getaway, since we postponed our vacation time until Dad is better :)

Kinnikinnick is the bomb! Since going Gluten Free I have been consuming their products like a mad woman. I am going to create a smores oats bowl with them in it! These look awesome. The burn ban here makes me nervous. I’m always like is someone going to drop a cig or something by accident.

  6. oh my goodness. those look delicious and now my mouth is watering!

Woah, congrats on the 4 years! That’s a really big deal, I am proud of you! I’d love to hear the story some day if you feel like posting it, I bet it could help a lot of people. I love their chocolate! The 72% is true love. I may or may not keep them on hand at all times.

  8. Hi Christin,
I’m a pretty new reader, and I had to reveal myself to marvel at your s’mores – awesome idea! The sea salt chocolate is so tasty :-) Are those gluten free Graham crackers good? I’ve never tried them.
Good going, both on your sobriety and massage school! I just started massage school a few weeks ago, and I’m loving it!

So happy to have you, Jennie! The graham crackers totally rock, and so do you for going to massage school! It was seriously the best year of my life! :)

  9. Strong work on the 4 years. You rock!

ps – getting chocolate in the mail, dark chocolate no less, would make for a fantastic day! We are doing a cabin trip soon and smores are on the menu. I was wondering how I’d make mine dark chocolate. Now I know.

  10. Meredith says:

Congratulations on 4 years sobriety! That is awesome and you are an inspiration. I’m 47 days sober today :) . I would love to hear more about your story!
Now if only I could get dark chocolate in the mail….yummy!!!

  11. Errign says:

    Mmmm s’mores!

Congratulations on your 4 years, friend. That is AWESOME!

  12. mmmmm – smores will always have a special place in my heart!
I would love to hear a “sobriety post.” Congrats – such a huge milestone! My brother-in-law has been struggling for years with getting sober (from multiple substances) and I know how difficult/daunting it can be! It’s really something to be proud of! Something I would, in particular, love to know if you do the post is your advice for family members – what they should/could do and how to help someone struggling on the road to recovery.

    • purplebirdblog says:

That’s an excellent idea, and I’ll be sure to include my family’s experience as well. In the meantime, there is a lot of excellent information on Al-Anon websites about the best things you can do for someone you care about who is struggling with the disease. <3
